If you are planning to work and travel Australia and are aged 18-30 years, then you need to apply for the Working Holiday Visa. This Visa type offers travellers and holidaymakers the opportunity to take up casual work to support their extended holiday in Australia.

The Working Holiday Visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to 12 months once your Visa has been granted. To be eligible to apply you must be aged between 18 – 30 years old, but you must not have turned 31.

Working Holiday Visa Entitlements:

  • You can work and travel Australia on an extended holiday (up to 12 months)
  • You can work with an employer for 6 months maximum
  • You can study for 4 months maximum
  • You must go into Australia within 12 months of the date your Visa was granted
  • You have the option of leaving Australia and re-entering on multiple occasions

Australian Working Holiday Eligibility:

  • To apply for the Working Holiday Visa you must not be in Australia at the time of application and when the Visa is approved
  • You must hold a valid passport for the whole trip. The Working Holiday Visa is electronically attached to the passport you have applied and are travelling with
  • Be in good health and meet the Department of Immigration and Citizenship health criteria
  • You must be aged between 18-30 years old at the time of application (you must not have turned age 31 years at the time of application)
  • You must have no dependent children
  • You must have not previously entered Australia on a Working Holiday Visa 417/Work and Holiday 462
  • The purpose of your trip must be to holiday in Australia and any casual labour carried out should be to support yourself in funding your trip
  • Please do not apply more than 12 months in advance of your trip to Australia
  • You must not hold any previous criminal convictions and meet the character requirements set by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
  • You are required to have sufficient money to support your initial part of your holiday. AUD $5000 may be regarded as adequate and you should hold a return/onward ticket or funds to depart Australia. Proof may be requested and this may include a certified bank statement and air ticket out of Oz
